Livingston and Penn Data Update

22 Jan

This information was cut and paste shamelessly from here.

I thought that the discussion of L&P sunspot prediction of zero spots or a clean sun by 2015 and the attendant data updated would be an interesting way to begin 2011. You may recall from an earlier post that Livingston and Penn predict a lessening of sun spot size to the point of almost extinction by 2015 due to reductions in magnetic flux measures they are finding in current and past spots. I find it interesting that the data continues to track the predictions. As magnetic flux declines so does sun spot (area?) or and intensity (?). Anyway, all that matters to me is loss of spots means less HF propagation. 🙂

If correct, not good news. And smug hams with 40 through 160 meter antennas better expect new neighbors that had been previously “living” on 10 through 30 meters.

This has me thinking more seriously about a better antenna for 80 and one that I can at least load on 160 M. Tough to do on a city lot with any efficiency.
