About
My name is Chuck Shinn and I was born in 1945 in Camden N.J. I have since worked diligently to lose my accent. I grew up in Upper Darby PA and following graduation joined the Navy. I served aboard the USS Saratoga, Kitty Hawk, Ticonderoga and America. Almost 10 years later I was discharged and worked for various employers including American Express, Tektronix, Versatec and Xerox. My wife and I are now retired near Dallas TX while our son completes his college and military activities.
I became a Ham in 1959 while living in southern California. My first call sign was WV6GUL. We returned to Pennsylvania and I became K3YMA followed by WA7SHJ, WB6SFM and for 20 odd years, W7MAP. I worked in communications in the Navy and maintained primarily transmitters, receivers and other associated systems on aircraft carriers and communications stations.
Relocation is an active option for us but so far nothing has caught our eye. We always enjoy looking for the perfect QTH with no external lights so Astronomy would work as well as a large lot for antennas. Hope springs eternal.

Interesting that you mentioned a Fred Bacon. Is this the same Chief Fred Bacon that served on the USS America in the 70-72 era?
